Thyroid Disease

  1. Women with hypothyroidism have fewer chronic musculoskeletal symptoms than other women
  2. Kidney function is altered in hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism

  1. Herbal medicines can cause hyperthyroidism

  2. Very-long-term methimazole therapy is effective in patients with hyperthyroidism caused by Graves’ disease

Ophthalmopathy

  1. Treatment with a long-acting form of octreotide is not beneficial in patients with Graves’ eye disease

Hypothyroidism

  1. Subclinical hypothyroidism rarely becomes more severe with time in women with type 2 diabetes
  2. Surgical removal of one thyroid lobe may result in hypothyroidism
  3. The symptoms and results of treatment of craniopharyngioma are similar in children and adults
  4. Combined thyroxine and triiodothyronine therapy is not more effective than thyroxine alone in patients with hypothyroidism (I)
  5. Combined thyroxine and triiodothyronine therapy is not more effective than thyroxine alone in patients with hypothyroidism (II)
  6. Combined thyroxine and triiodothyronine therapy is not more effective than thyroxine alone in patients with hypothyroidism (III)

Nodular Goiter

  1. Laser thermocoagulation reduces the size of benign thyroid nodules
  2. Radioactive iodine therapy in patients with hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules can result in hypothyroidism

Thyroid Cancer

  1. Patients with thyroid cancer who have low serum thyroglobulin concentrations after surgery have a low risk of tumor recurrence
  2. Combined surgical and radiation therapy may be of benefit in patients with anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid

Thyroid Function in Pregnancy

  1. Subclinical hypothyroidism is associated with premature delivery

Autoimmune Thyroid Disease

  1. In healthy people, high serum antithyroid antibody concentrations are associated with high serum thyrotropin concentrations and thyroid enlargement
  2. High serum antithyroid antibody concentrations are not associated with Helicobacter pylori infection
  3. Thyroxine therapy does not improve the outcome of in vitro fertilization in women with autoimmune thyroiditis

Thyroid Function in Obesity

  1. Serum thyrotropin is correlated with body mass in obese women with normal thyroid function
